Howdy doody! Hope things are great with you! Can you believe our blog is 18 months old already? It seems like yesterday that we started! And here we are with over 160 recipes on the blog already! And so many more to come!
My lovely mom is in town for a visit! So we’ve been jolling!
And by the way jolling is South African slang for ‘having a good time’!
Last night we went to an awesome resort out in the desert for a cocktail at happy hour and then out to dinner at an awesome Thai restaurant on the Marina.
She’s only here for a week, so we’re going to make the most of it! So great to have family time!
Dubai is an awesome place for a visit, beautiful beaches, hot weather, ultra luxurious hotels and resorts, stunning malls, 24/7 entertainment. But what can I say? My heart is in South Africa.
March was a great month and lots of awesome new recipes went up! So let’s take a look then!
1. Vegan Oatmeal Cookies // 2. Peanut Butter Milkshake // 3. Raisin Bran Muffins // 4. Oreo Cupcakes // 5. Vegan Split Pea Soup // 6. Vegan Sugar Cookies // 7. Roasted Butternut Squash Hummus // 8. Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge //
COMING UP IN APRIL
I am super dooper excited for what’s coming next! April is going to be awesome! Here’s a sneak peek at two of the goodies coming your way! Blueberry muffins and a delicious thin crust (made from scratch) vegan pizza!
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING
A while back a reader recommended to us that we watch ‘Happy Valley’ on Netflix. At the time it wasn’t available to us yet (due to licensing, every country has a slightly different Netflix catalogue), but it finally came our way. We were hooked on this show within minutes and a quite unscheduled binge watching event followed!
It has some quite grim storylines but it is utterly compelling and the acting is simply incredible. And guess what? I just got a notification from Netflix that season 2 is now up, so you can guess what I’m planning for the rest of my Sunday!
I have a little test for whether a show or movie is worth watching, the test is: do I pick up my phone and start pinning on pinterest? If I do then it’s not super compelling. However, this works for me as well cos I quite like half watching something while I do some pinning!
But when I don’t even think of my phone, that’s when I know I’m watching something that I am really into. And yes, Happy Valley is one of these shows. We’re also busy with Season 3 of ‘Broadchurch’ (also utterly compelling) and we finished watching season 3 of ‘The Fall’ which was also incredible.
WHAT WE’RE READING
Argh I started reading this book, it was written in the 90’s, it’s fiction, chick-lit kind of stuff. Got it on my kindle and honestly I had to abandon it a few chapters in. The story features a fat character, who is a friend of the main character, and the way this character is written is SOOOO offensive. I thought maybe I could ignore it as she is not the main character but on every second page, the author manages to insert some highly offensive slur on this character for having a fat body. I have to hope that people are more awake now! Prejudice is prejudice, it’s so not cool! Diversity is something to be celebrated! All kinds of diversity! We are NOT all meant to look the same. Big bodies, small bodies, tall bodies, short bodies, fat bodies, thin bodies, all bodies are good bodies! There is no body shape/height/color better than another body. As Taryn Brumfitt says:
Your body is not an ornament, it’s the vehicle to your dreams!
So now I’m re-reading ‘Good Omens‘ (affiliate link) one of the best books in the whole wide world. Simply hilarious! Highly recommended to anyone with a sense of humor!
Jaye is busy reading ‘The Shining‘ (affiliate link) by Stephen King. What an amazing book, I have to re-read that soon too!
FRANKIE AND ERNIE
Oh my! These have been tough times for our two little fur babies! They had to go to the vet and as I told you last month, this is like the ultimate betrayal! It takes a little while to rebuild the trust!
Well, it had to be done! They needed to get their shots, so off we went. Other than abject terror on their part and guilt on ours (even though we know we are doing the best by them), it all went smoothly.
Ernie does this thing where he makes this awesome noise when he’s watching birds. It is so funny and cute and I love it! I am dying to get a video of this so I can share it, but every time I get the phone out and hit record then he decides he’s had enough of all that. I had the camera recording him for more than 2 minutes the other day while he sat there in total silence! Ah well, I’ll get it soon!
So that’s it for our March recipe round up, hope you’ve had a great first quarter of 2017 and that the next one will be even better!
