Hey! How are you? How’s 2017 treating you so far? Good I hope!
How are those New Years Resolutions? I saw this meme on facebook, you know the picture of Sean Bean that’s on about a million memes, where he’s holding up a hand with finger and thumb touching, narrowed eyes, clearly explaining something, and this one says: ‘One does not simply….keep New Years Resolutions’. Hahahaa!
Yes indeed. I find it takes at least until February to get going on them! There’s still time!!!!
So….January was full of good stuff on the blog in terms of recipes with 9 new recipes that went up! Let’s see what we did then!
1. Cauliflower Rice // 2. Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream // 3. Vegan Potato Soup // 4. 3-Ingredient Vegan Caramel Sauce // 5. Easy Cheesy Kale Chips // 6. Vegan Chocolate Cookies // 7. Vegetable Skewers (Kebabs) // 8. Shortbread and Raisin Chocolate Tiffin // 9. Butternut Squash Curry Bowls
As always it’s so hard to choose favorites but wow that potato soup! We have been eating that like crazy around here! Love it! And then the butternut squash curry bowls are just a staple in our house anyway!
Jaye is a massive fan of cookies, so the chocolate cookies were his favorite treat food for sure.
The 3-ingredient caramel sauce is just sooo versatile! I’ve got a recipe coming up in February using it as a caramel fudge filling (it turns to fudge when cold) that is totally divine!
What are your favorites? Let me know!
COMING UP IN FEBRUARY
Well we do have Valentines Day in February and I have a little something special that is perfect for that occasion! As well as many other fabulous recipes coming up, here’s a sneak peek!
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING
I kind of made the mistake of starting Gilmore Girls on Netflix. And now I don’t mean ‘mistake’ in the sense that I didn’t enjoy it. I mean ‘mistake’ in that I enjoyed it too much! And there were 7 seasons of it!
Cue binge watching over several weeks! Jaye didn’t much enjoy this one, so I was on my own! Staying up way too late most nights so I could get my Gilmore Girls ‘fix’.
I enjoyed it so much yet was dying to get it finished so that I could go back to being productive! Hahaha, so if you’re similarly undisciplined when it comes to TV time, then think carefully before starting this one!
One that we really enjoyed watching together was ‘Please Like Me’, an Australian comedy. Can’t wait for more seasons of this one.
What are you watching? Anything you’d recommend?
WHAT WE’RE READING
I’m loving my new kindle and have been doing some easy reading with some Marian Keyes novels. Always fun. And then I have a real paper book on the go too! It’s ‘The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up‘ by Marie Kondo.* This book has already changed my sisters life, and now I am getting big value out of it too.
I am always looking for ways to minimize and downsize. I like living a simple, yet comfortable life.
Jaye and I read (and loved!) this article about how our standards as consumers are actually so low. We buy and buy because we’re being sold ideas (about ourselves) instead of the focus being on the actual goods. And since our ideas about our own self-actualization are endless, so is our need to purchase.
But instead of being sold high quality items, we are most often being sold a heap of plastic junk. So this article argues that it’s not that we’re materialistic, it’s that we’re not materialistic enough! Because if we focus more on the material, then we are not going to buy poorly made items that we’ll throw out in a few months, we’re instead going to buy something wonderfully made and comfortable that brings us joy and that will last us many many years! I highly recommend this article: We Are Not Materialistic Enough.
FRANKIE AND ERNIE
Well if you were wondering how Frankie and Ernie are doing, all I can say is, the pictures speak for themselves. Ernie is very busy practicing his shoulder stand into plow when he does his yoga and Frankie wants everyone to know she’s a serious kitty with some serious fangs.
So that’s it for now! Next post will be on Saturday where I’ll be sharing a recipe for caramel fudge chocolates that are perfect for Valentines Day!
