Hiya! How’s 2018 treating you so far?
We had to hit the ground running as we took a bit of time off between Christmas and New Year, which was lovely, but the moment January 2nd came around I was suddenly darting around making lists like crazy and up to my eyeballs in planning, recipe creating and writing!
And this past weekend we spent a long weekend away in Cape Town, so I’m again up to my eyeballs in work. Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth taking time off? I know it is, don’t worry. That was a purely rhetorical question. But you can get quite a nice relaxed pace going when you’re always doing a bit here and there, but planning for time off is another story!
But I’m really not complaining, I love this job!
So how about those recipes in January then? Since a lot of people (not me, but a lot of people ) like to make January a focus for more, let’s say ‘wholesome’ fare, we put up a few more savory recipes and slightly less desserts than usual!
Let’s take a look at what we did!
1. Tofu and Eggplant Bowls // 2. Vegan Strawberry Cake // 3. Vegan Lentil Soup // 4. Carrot Cake Balls // 5. Tofu Satay with Peanut Sauce // 6. Coconut Red Lentil Dal // 7. Homemade Peanut Butter // 8. Carrot and Avocado Gazpacho // 9. Oreo Truffles // 10. Chocolate Covered Strawberries // 11. Homemade Vegan Butter // 12. Zucchini Noodles with Tahini Sauce //
We put up six new videos in January! If you just click any of the pics below, it’ll take you straight to that recipe where there is now a new video right above the recipe card. It always helps to have a more complete visual representation of the process.
COMING UP IN FEBRUARY
We have heaps of deliciousness coming your way in February! And this Mango Ice Cream and Thai Massaman Curry will not disappoint!
WHAT WE’RE READING
I’m busy reading ‘It’ by Stephen King. It’s my second time reading this book, but the first time I read it was around the year 2000 so I have to say it feels very fresh!
We watched the movie a few months ago and it was soooo good, so that awakened the urge to have another read of this book! I usually have time to read at night before going to sleep, but this is a bit of a scary time to pick up this particular book! It puts some visions in your minds eye that make you a bit skeefy about putting the lights off!
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING
‘Godless’ on Netflix. It starts off slow but then gets going in a very satisfying way! Highly recommend! It also stars Michelle Dockery from ‘Downton Abbey’ and Merritt Wever from ‘Nurse Jackie’ and ‘The Walking Dead’, major pluses there!
Also, the second season of ‘Black Mirror’ – disturbing (but compelling) viewing as always.
FRANKIE AND ERNIE
Frankie and Ernie are doing fabulously well. We had to take them to the vet last week, just for a meet and greet basically, since we hadn’t taken them to a vet since leaving Dubai last year.
So since we were going away for the weekend and a pet sitter was going to be looking after them, I thought it was a good time to go to the vet so that they have a vet on record, just in case.
The cats were actually okay, they were horribly upset before and during the visit (as usual) but recovered super fast after arriving back home.
Their mom (aka me) on the other hand, took a lot longer to recover! The reason? The vet fat-shamed Frankie! And had the nerve to suggest I starve her! What, is she going to enter her in a bikini contest too? I am still spluttering and muttering angrily whenever I think of it. Hahaha! And all this came after the vet declared her very healthy (and she is!).
Our vet in Dubai used to just have a little laugh about the fact that she’s ‘a little on the heavier side’ and ‘must enjoy her food’. Which we were quite happy to agree with and laugh about too. But the very idea that she should be starved so that some vet can think she ‘looks’ better is utterly absurd.
So these photos were taken by the pet sitter, as you can see Ernie was in his usual hiding place in the bed, under the duvet. So we have a lovely duvet shot of him! Frankie as usual is more confident!
And here’s another one of Frankie. Who is just perfect in every way. As they both are. Now I need to find a new vet!
So that’s all from me, hope you had an awesome January and that 2018 is shaping up to be a great year!
Lots of love!
