What a whirlwind you guys! Moving internationally is not for the faint hearted! You know they say (I don’t know who ‘they’ are, but they do say it!) that moving is as stressful as a divorce. Well I don’t know about that but I do know Jaye and I have been super damn stressed!
Right now we’re in our last few days in Dubai and staying at my sister’s (very lovely) beachfront apartment, since our lease ended last week. Sadly I have not been able to even enjoy the beach since I hurt my toe (I’ll spare you the details, it’s pretty gross) and it’s all bandaged up and covered in antibiotic cream – and sand will not mix well with the situation going on there.
Last weekend the shipping company came to our apartment and packed us up and shipped us out! It was super weird, I thought it was just going to be a case of taking our things and piling them in a truck, you know, like a normal move, just that they would have to take it to a container instead of to a new apartment.
Oh no, when it’s shipping internationally, they box everything! As in, they create a custom box for every single thing, like the fridge gets its own box made, the couch, the mattresses, the washing machine, the piano, everything gets a box made for it from scratch. As you can imagine, this takes a while! We were super impressed with the company, everyone worked so hard and it took 2 days to get us packed up into the shipping container, and really we were just in a 1 bed apartment! I can’t imagine what it must be like when a whole house is getting shipped!
Anyway we’re busy wrapping up the last bits of admin and Jaye is busy working his last few days at his job here and then we’re off!
But in the midst of all the chaos – we did manage to post some awesome recipes in July, so let’s have a quick recap of those!
1. Vegan Strawberry Shortcake // 2. Vegan Chocolate Fudge // 3. Vegan Blueberry Pancakes // 4. Vegan Coffee Cupcakes // 5. Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie // 6. Vegan Chocolate Sugar Cookies // 7. No-Bake Banoffee Pie // 8. Vegan Blue Velvet Cake
So did you have any favorites? Let me know! I’m a sucker for cake, and fudge, so for me it has to be the blue velvet cake, the coffee cupcakes and the chocolate fudge! Though everything was pretty damn delicious!
COMING UP IN AUGUST
Even though we’re in transit and our kitchen appliances and other furniture will not be arriving until probably the end of August, don’t worry – we’ll still be posting recipes twice per week! This is because we are so super darn organized I tell you! Hahaha, we actually (over)-prepared so well for this move, we have content up until the middle of October! So we won’t be missing a beat! This is two of the goodies coming your way in August! Vegan coconut cream pie, and vegan chocolate mint crunch cups!
SO MANY SWEET THINGS…..
You may be wondering why it seems there are more desserts than savory items lately (well from the above this definitely seems the case!) but there is a good reason for this!
We have been spending all our savory energies on an upcoming ebook called ‘Simple Vegan Dinner Recipes!’ Yeeha!
We literally just finished writing and photographing the recipes, like the week before the shippers arrived to move us! But there is still plenty to do – like retesting all the recipes from the beginning again to make sure they are perfect! And then doing the design and all the other bits and pieces involved. I want this to be really excellent, so no short cuts! I am hoping it will be ready by October!
So don’t worry – if you’re keen on more savory stuff, it’s definitely coming! This isn’t a dessert blog, it’s an everything vegan food blog, sometimes we’ll lean more one way and then we’ll swing right around to the other way.
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING
Game of Thrones y’all! We’re loving the new season!
We’re also finishing up our rewatch of ‘The Good Wife’ on Netflix. Such an excellent show, Alicia Florrick is just awesome.
WHAT WE’RE READING
I just finished ‘An Untamed State‘ by Roxane Gay. Oh wow! What a book, totally unputdownable. I am not a fast reader, I tend to read dialogue in my head the way I imagine it being said, so I’m not speedy, and as you might have already inferrred from the above, it’s been a busy month, and yet I read it in a day. I couldn’t stop until I knew everything! It’s not an easy read, and definite trigger warning to anyone who has been a victim of sexual violence. It’s harrowing. But it’s outstandingly good fiction.
And now I have just started reading ‘Dietland‘ by Sarai Walker and I am SO excited about this book! I am just loving it sooooo much! I don’t even know what else to say to make you go read it, but really – read it! I’m only a few chapters in and already I am so damn thrilled I want to tell everyone to read it! Rip roaringly good fiction!
FRANKIE AND ERNIE
A few days before the shippers came to pack us up, Frankie and Ernie flew back to South Africa. We used a professional pet relocation agency to do all the arrangements and everything went smoothly! Though I had such anxiety about it I had nightmares every night about some sort of calamity befalling them.
They were flown to Cape Town and then connected on a flight to Port Elizabeth where they are boarding at a cat hotel until we get back. I am missing them SOOO much! But I am thrilled that they are now South African cats and that it all went smoothly.
The place they are staying is also really nice and the lady running it has been sending me updates and photos. Ernie has not come out of his igloo except to eat (and thankfully he is eating!). But Frankie has been pretty social! This is to be expected as Frankie is always the braver of the two. At least Ernie has his igloo to hide away in! The reunion will be happening in a few days, I can’t wait!
Here’s a couple of photos of them in their temporary home.
So that’s all from me, hope you’re having an awesome summer!
Lots of love!
P.S. I was wondering if I should stop doing these monthly round-ups, because we’re going to start doing instagram stories, which will be a place for more off-topic stuff. What do you think? Do you like getting these round ups as a reminder of the latest recipes? Let me know….
