Happy (belated) Halloween. Hope you had a good time and ate all the candy!
I’m in a bit of a fog today as I was up until 2am this morning after a marathon work session on the blog yesterday. Our recipe cards have had a bit of an upgrade! You might have noticed the recent recipes all have that lovely pink recipe card. Well, the hundreds of older recipes on the site had to be updated too. The conversion happened in one go with the click of a button so that was easy, but THEN every one of them had to be manually checked – and that part took forever!
I was determined to get it done yesterday though because today we are readying the house for visitors! Who arrive tomorrow! Too excited!
It was my birthday on Monday (turned 41!) and it is Jaye’s on Sunday! And for him it’s the big 40!
So my sister and her partner and my mom are all coming for the weekend and we are going to party! Well, we are going to braai (bbq) vegan style, and that’s the same thing right?
The weather has been fab! Well it’s been hot! And coming from Dubai where it’s not just hot, it’s scorching, you’d think we’d be fine with this, but in Dubai there are air conditioners everywhere, so as long as you’re indoors you don’t notice the heat that much! Whereas here – no air cons anywhere and you swelter indoors!
But we’ve been loving some swims in the marina and now I’m not so scared to fall off my paddleboard! So there are lots of perks! I’m hoping the weather will hold though for the weekend celebrations, will be great to be mostly outdoors.
So… how about those recipes then! We posted some great stuff to the blog in October, let’s take a look!
1. Vegan Snickers Bars // 2. Vegan Dulce De Leche // 3. Vegan Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies // 4. Easy Thai Pumpkin Curry // 5. Ultra Cheesy Vegan Mac and Cheese // 6. Vegan Funfetti Cupcakes // 7. Vegan Pumpkin Cake // 8. Vegan Pumpkin Ice Cream //
Favorites? So hard to choose! I loved that vegan mac and cheese! And favorite dessert? I can’t choose. All just so good.
We also released our cookbook: Simple Vegan Dinner Recipes in October that many of you are already enjoying! I’m thinking to make a couple of the recipes from that this weekend to impress our guests!
We’re back to making videos! Yay! Only 2 this month, but we’ll be picking up the pace in November! And the 2 we’ve posted are goodies! It’s Vegan White Sauce and Vegan Carrot Cake with Lemon Buttercream Frosting!
Click the links or the pictures below to take you to the recipes where there are now featured videos – right above the recipe cards!
COMING UP IN NOVEMBER
We’ve got some seriously delicious pumpkin soup and some gorgeous pumpkin cupcakes coming at ya! And for those who don’t like pumpkin, don’t worry, we’ll be moving on from the pumpkin theme pretty soon too, and there are other recipes in the mix in November!
WHAT WE’RE READING
I am super excited to have got my hands on Ken Follett’s latest book ‘A Column of Fire’. Ken Follett is simply so sensational a writer, and these books of his are such epics, and they only come out every couple of years – so I’m taking it slow! As slow as I can bear to take it as I don’t want it to finish!
I am also very keen to get my hands on Stephen King’s ‘It’ because even though I have read it before, I am super keen to read it again because….
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING
We watched ‘It’ at the movies and it was soooo good! It’s so seldom that a movie manages to capture a book, especially one as good as ‘It’, but this one does an amazing job. It really captures the feel and emotion of the book. It was stellar!
Also, Stranger Things was great fun to binge watch over the weekend.
And then I’ve become hooked on ‘Offspring’ the Australian comedy/drama on Netflix. Billie Proudman is like my favorite person ever.
FRANKIE AND ERNIE
You know, Frankie and Ernie used to have spats with each other. It was usually Frankie who got irritated. She would come and sit on the bed with me and if Ernie tried to join the party she would growl or hiss at him. She was not willing to share!
In times of trouble (like those terrible betrayals when they were taken to the vet) then they were best friends again, Ernie hiding behind Frankie.
Some things never change!
And they were always each others favorite playmate. But in good times Frankie sometimes liked to tell Ernie to get lost! Ernie is so sweet tempered though he never did it back, it was always Frankie who dished it.
But now that we are in a house much bigger than the apartment we were in in Dubai, it’s all best friends all the way! When Frankie is cuddling on the bed with me, Ernie is welcome to join in. I haven’t heard Frankie hiss at him once! So they are loving the extra space, they, or at least she, doesn’t need to be territorial anymore.
And she is becoming very curious about ‘outside’. In fact she has had a few supervised trips to the great outside. When she gets stressed out and starts making these weird howling sounds, we bring her back in. Ernie has NO interest whatsoever. When that door opens he goes and hides under the duvet, similarly to what you see in the picture above. He has no interest in what’s ‘out there’. He saw quite enough of it when he was a baby, after he came to live with us he had no further interest!
So the kids are doing well, settling in wonderfully and loving their new life as South African citizens.
So that’s it from me – hope you had a fabulous October and let’s all enjoy these exciting months leading up to the end of the year! Oh my – can you believe how fast it’s gone?
Lots of love,
