The best damn strawberry smoothie! Bold claim. Very bold indeed.
In fact where do I get off making such a claim? You know usually when I’m browsing pinterest and I see someone has called their recipe ‘the best xyz’ I usually think to myself: “Well have you tried mine? How do you know yours is ‘the best'”
And yet here I am calling this recipe ‘the best’.
Well, I do think it’s the best and this is why I think so!
The flavor of this smoothie is just pure strawberry! Now loads of smoothies containing strawberries are pretty damn delicious, but usually there’s other fruit in there so you have more than one flavor going on.
Not so with this smoothie. It’s sort of strawberries and cream BUT the cream flavor is so subtle that all that really comes through is strawberry.
So when it comes to a smoothie that has the flavor of rich, lush, ripe and delicious strawberries without interference from any other flavor, this is the one!
This strawberry smoothie is best served ice cold. So to achieve this you either use frozen strawberries (does not harm the flavor at all!) or chill your coconut milk beforehand or throw in some ice. Ice is my least favorite option though as that does dilute the flavors.
So if you’re going with fresh strawberries, then put your coconut milk in the freezer for an hour or so beforehand. And if you’re using frozen strawberries then you’re set for a deliciously cold smoothie.
I didn’t use a lot of sweetener in this smoothie, just a couple of tablespoons of maple syrup. To me that was enough, because while strawberries are sometimes fairly tart, just this small amount of sweetener was enough to offset that without interfering with the flavor of the strawberries.
